| KV-I Gandhi Nagar hosts chess, skating, shooting events KVS Regional Kho-Kho meet begins at KV Bantalab | | | Sports reporter JAMMU, Sept 3: The 44th Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Regional Sports Meet in under-19 boys Kho-Kho was declared open by the Deputy Commissioner, KVS Jammu Region, AVLJ Rao at KV Bantalab, here today. Deputy Commissioner also inaugurated sports meet at KV-I Gandhi Nagar and KV Sunjuwan in different disciplines of Chess, Skating, Shooting, Tennis, Cricket, Table Tennis, Handball, Badminton, Kabbadi, Boxing, Judo and Taekwondo. The three-day long competitions shall conclude on September five. Before declaring the meet open at KV Bantalab, Deputy Commissioner KVS Jammu Region laid emphasis on involvement of each and every student in sports activities. Justifying his view point, he said, "Sports keeps one healthy, it teaches us to learn from defeats and mistakes as also imbibe the spirit to win and excel in life. Being in sports we enjoy and relish friendship". In Kho-Kho 370 boys, representing 14 KVs of Jammu Region, shall compete on league-cum-knock out basis. Earlier, Principal of KV Bantalab, Santosh Kumar in his welcome address presented a brief note of the activity hosted by the institution and assured the visiting teams a comfortable stay amidst fair competition. The vote of thanks was presented by Vice-Principal, Rani Amrit. Prominent among others present were Assistant Commandant, CRPF Group Centre Bantalab, Yogesh Kumar and Manager SBI, Pawan Sharma. Meanwhile at KV-I Gandhi Nagar where three events of Chess, Skating and Shooting are being conducted, the opening function besides others was attended by CR Bhagat, Tilak Raj Choudhary and R K Shukla. Children presented cultural programmes during these events. Also present were Principal, KV No. 2, Jammu, Laxmi Narayana, officiating Principal, KV Miran Sahib, Samrata Charak and Vice-Principal, KV No.1, Dr. B. C. Dwivedy. Meanwhile, K.V NO. 1 Udhampur Regional Kabbadi Sports meet Girls U-14/U-19 was inaugurated by Chief Guest D.I.G Police Udhampur Zone Garib Dass Kaith and guest of honour Assistant Commissioner Usha Shamindra. In Regional Kabbadi Sports Meet U-14 nine teams and U-19 eleven teams are participating Chief Guest and guest of honour were welcomed by N.C.C, Scouts Guides colour Party. After lighting of lamp a colourful cultural programme was presented by the youngsters of K.V.No 1 Udhampur. Venue Principal Dr. R. Prasad welcomed the guests and the teams as well as their escorts. In his welcome address he insisted upon healthy competition among the teams. Flag hoisting was followed by March Past of different teams representing their Vidyalayas. Oath ceremony was done by all the players under the leadership of Sapna Tiwari SGFI Player of K.V.No 1 Udhampur. Officials of sports committee were welcomed by presenting caps and badges. Assistant Commissioner Usha Shamindra in her address highlighted that we Indians have lot of potential and can achieve the targets in all the fields.She insisted that it is all because of Our Indian rich cultural heritage. Chief guest of the function blessed all the team members and encouraged them to play in true spirit following the rules of the game. He insisted upon the importance of games in character building and personality development. He declared the tournament open from 3rd September 2013 to 5th September 2013. Basanti Khampa Vice Principal K.V No. 1 Udhampur presented vote of thanks and hoped for friendly relations among all the players. She bestowed her best wishes to all the teams. Inaugural matches U-14 were between K.V No. 3 Pathankot and K.V Bhadrwah. U-19 was between K.V Damana and K.V Bhadrwah.In which K.V Bhadrwah and K.V Amritsar (U-14) and K.V Bhadrwah and K.V No.1 Udhampur U-19 won the matches. |
