| Complaints of financial irregularities in SMVDU | | CVC, Director SVO at loggerheads | | Early Times Report srinagar, Sept 3: In the first case of clash of functional responsibility, the Chief vigilance commissioner and the Director State Vigilance Organization have come to confront each other in the case of alleged financial irregularities in the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU). Shockingly, the highest anti-graft body of the state, the Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Commission on Tuesday grilled the Director, State Vigilance Organization for complying the court orders to investigate into the alleged financial irregularities in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University. Reliable sources told Early Times today that the full bench of CVC today summoned the Director Vigilance Organization, Sheikh Owais Ahmad and grilled him for taking cognizance into a complaint filed by one Udhay Chand Thakur in the Court of District and Session Judge Anti-corruption, Jammu regarding financial irregularities in Shri Mata Vaishno University. Sources said the Director Vigilance had on compliance of the Court Ordered an inquiry to reveal the facts about the allegation. They said the Vigilance Organization ordered inquiry into the alleged financial irregularities in SMVDU on August 7 which is still going on. Sources said the CVC on Monday summoned the Director SVO and grilled him for initiating inquiry into the matter. They said the Chief Vigilance Commissioner and two vigilance commissioners today summoned the Director SVO and strongly objected to the inquiry ordered by him into the matter. However, when contacted Director SVO, Sheikh Owais refused to comment on the issue. A senior lawyer from Jammu told Early Times that whenever inquiry is ordered by the court that inquiry is supervised and monitored by the court, there remains no room for external pressure. He termed the reports of grilling the Director SVO by CVC as unfortunate. He said if it is true, then it is really very unfortunate. "In state of J&K where there is a war against corruption only against small fries and big fish is caught rarely and whenever the big fish comes in the net all out efforts are made to shield him" said the lawyer on the conditions of not to be named. He said it is only where the courts have monitored the inquiries investigations the results have come positive. He said the case of irregularities in SMVDU is being monitored by the court, so there was no question of succumbing to the pressure. Entire credit goes to the judiciary in Jammu and Kashmir because it is only after the judicial intervention that the wealth is being saved to some extent. |
