Gang raped in 2008 A 'Damini' awaits justice posthumously
Senior police officers allegedly shielding accused

JAMMU, Sept 3: Five years after she was allegedly gang raped, a woman is awaiting justice posthumously while his accused move scot free, thanks to some senior officers of the state police.
As per documents available with the Early Times, the woman was gang raped by three persons namely Mohd Yousuf alias Shama son of Fakkar Din of Narwal Bala, his cousin brother Aslam Choudhary and Liaqat Ali son of Munshi Ram of Narwal Bala on 29.4.2008. After the incident the FIR was lodged accordingly against the three persons.
In the statement woman recorded under section 164 A, "I was going to home when three persons kidnapped me and took me to the field where the accused Shama tied my hand with the piece of cloth and rapped me. There after two of his companions also raped me. On hearing my cries, my brother in law rushed to the spot and, the trio fled from the spot".
Though the case of gang rape has been lodged with the Narwal police under section 376,341,34 RPC against FIR No 84/2008 against the three persons and the statement of the victim woman was recorded under section 164 A, but till date no arrest has been made. To shield the accused persons police initiated inquiry which is not culminated even after elapse of five years. Further police admitting its failure gave undue favour to the accused as even after 60 days when police did not produce the challan,one of the accused person namely Liqat got bail easily in the heinous crime.
Credibility of state police came under scanner when involvement of five of its officers surfaced in hushing the case of rape and later mysterious death of the victim woman. Not only this the officers also allegedly involve in sale and purchase of land in connivance of the accused person namely Mohd Yousuf alias Shama. Sources said that the accused was so influential that even after being booked in 7 different cases and being history sheeter, the accused managed another gun license from district Doda without police verification. Earlier, his gun license was got cancelled by then SSP Jammu Prabat Singh from then DC Jammu Sanjeev Verma. Sources said that police officers who are well wisher of the accused are posted on prime positions. One of them is district SP, other is posted in SOG in Srinagar, one is posted as SP Headquarter, the fourth one has occupied a prime post in district Jammu. Among well wishers the name of ASI has also surfaced. These police officers managed land in district Jammu,Samba and Kathua through the accused Shama.
Sources alleging hand of these senior police officers in shielding the accused divulge that When the senior police officers came to know that their tout was booked, they started putting pressure on the then SHO Trikuta Nagar. A reader of the then SDPO Bhimsen Tuti who is ASI played crucial role in giving lose rope to the accused.
The twist in the case came when the victim woman was found dead in 2010. A mysterious death case was lodged with the Trikuta Nagar police under section 174CrPC. The inquiry was later entrusted to the SP rank officer, which is still in progress.
Meanwhile, on condition of anonymity, a senior police officer said that the inquiry is on verge of culmination, adding, police is waiting for FSL report to come on the conclusion of the mysterious death of the woman. He further said that Trikuta Nagar police has been asked to submit the report of FSL for further necessary action.
