| If NC lives in minds & hearts, does PDP live in heads of masses? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 18: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has said that the National Conference lives in the minds and hearts of the people. Should that be treated as the cause for peoples' support to the 75-year old NC? It may also denote that people vote for the NC without exercising their mental faculties.
If Omar's claim is accepted for the sake of arguments, which party then lives in the heads of the people ?Possibly for Omar Abdullah mind and heart are more important than head. And he seems to boast about it. He has said that the ruling NC has withstood "so many onslaughts and challenges", but came out "victorious and stronger" because the NC lived in "minds and hearts" of the people. "The NC and its activists have withstood so many onslaughts and challenges, particularly during the period of disturbances, but it came out victorious and stronger for the fact that it lived in the minds and hearts of the people," Abdullah said.
Earlier, Omar Abdullah had said that the National Conference is not simply a political party but a movement. He seems to be right because for sustaining a movement there is need for support of minds and hearts of people. Once people started utilizing their mental faculties they may stop following a particular political party and its leaders like dumb driven cattle. And if people have supported the NC for all these years their loyalty was based on the reflex action from their minds and hearts. If it is so, does it mean that the PDP, the main political foe of the NC, lives in the heads of people? Does it mean that whosoever has been supporting the PDP has been doing so without seeking guidance from their minds and hearts? It means that the supporters of the PDP are intellectuals who weigh all the pros and cons of the party programmes and manifestos.
If the NC lives in the mind and hearts of people and the PDP in the heads of people where do other parties live? Does it mean that the BJP lives in the mouth of people which is evident from the juicy slogans coined by the saffron brigade? What about the separatists? Very vital organs have been occupied by some mainstream political parties. And judged by the activities, programmes and ideologies of those who are on the other side of the fence, one is bound to believe that separatists live in the liver of people. Liver is the largest organ or gland in the human body and the separatists believe that their organizations or their conglomerates are bigger in shape and size than other mainstream parties. If it is All Party Hurriyat Conference, led by Molvi Umar Farooq,or it is the Hurriyat Conference(G),headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, both are conglomerates of more than 10 poltical groups.
Omar Abdullah is not wrong when he says that NC lives in the minds and hearts of people because both human mind and heart are emotional. As far as heart and mind are concerned they feel, they react, they become calm, they become violent but they do not think. Does it mean that those who lead or those who support the NC have no need to think because they are guided by emotions, strong emotions? If the NC lives in the heart and mind of people it means the party will remain whimsical, joining hands with the Congress on one occasion and berating it on the other occasion. It is sheer being whimsical when the NC joins hands with the BJP, the same party that is being dubbed communal. The fault is not with the NC because it lives in the heart and mind of people of Jammu and Kashmir who are known for being whimsical.
