'Umeed ' assessment function in Khan Sahib

'Central schemes being politicized……attempt to weaken institutions by NC'

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 18: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah once again indulged in an act today that amounts to his attempt to keep complete hold and upper hand of only his party National Conference on the Centrally Sponsored schemes inevitably to get credit of the fruits of such schemes politically in NC's favour. In a function held in the Khansahib constituency Budgam district, the local MLA and former minister who until last year was a part of the coalition was kept out of the 'loop ' of function today apparently in bid to sideline him , though he was the only person on the forefront of the gala affairs when the scheme was launched last year in presence of the Union Rural Development Minister Jai Ram Ramesh.
Sources said it was a function essentially to assess the progress of Umeed Scheme meant for Women and interact with its beneficiaries in Khansahib which is one out of only 4 blocks chosen for implementation of this Centrally Sponsored scheme. However it was only NC show today as apart from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar was present in the function . No representative from Congress or other party was invited in the function. However, what became conspicuous was the absence of local MLA Hakim Mohammmad Yasin in the function, who is considered to be a towering and quite popular leader in his constituency among the masses.
" I was only informed about this function late in the evening yesterday through Commissioner's office…..I do not think it is the appropriate way of extending invitation …I guess it was just a formality….there has been a precedent of getting information from CM's Secretariat or the concerned department at least a day earlier but they did not probably want my presence in the function", said Yasin when ET tried to find out the reason . They (NC) want to politicize even the central welfare schemes and this can be seen as a bid to take political benefits all for themselves, he added, inevitably expressing reservations the way CM and Sagar conducted the show without participation of others. I can only say this is an attempt to weaken the institutions, Yasin added.
Pertinently, when the scheme was launched last year in presence of Jai ram Ramesh no one, not even Chief Minister came to this constituency. He only came when after few months Congress leader rahul Gandhi visited the area to have assessment of this scheme. Hakim Yaisn was albeit present and on the forefront at the time of launching apparently because his constuency was among only selected few from Kashmir Valley for this scheme.
