| Contractors demand release of pending payments | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 20 : Demanding release of their work done liabilities as well as the current years liability, a large number of contractors of District Jammu staged a day long protest dharna in front of PWD Complex, Lok Nirman Bhawan Jammu to exert pressure on the department. Shouting slogans against the Department as well as the Government for not releasing their dues, the protesting contractors alleged that some of them have their liabilities amounting to crores of rupees pending for more than four to five years. They said that delay in payments has resulted in mental harassment and financial loss to the contractors as many of them have taken loan from the banks as well as from the private financial institutions on hefty interest rate. General Secretaries J&K Contractors Coordination Committee Balvinder Singh and Vinod Kohli urged upon the Chief Minister make arrangements for the release of the work done claims of the contractors as he himself had made commitment in the District Development Board meeting held recently to clear the work done liabilities of the contractors. President of the Committee, Sham Singh also appealed the CM to initiate an enquiry to find out who are the officers and politicians responsible for the execution of unapproved works more than two hundred times than the approved plan and are responsible for the exploitation of the contractors. |
