Rehabilitation of migrant Pandits in Kashmir | Govt ropes in KP organizations | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 20: The Government has roped in some Kashmiri Pandit organizations in Jammu and Delhi to give a practical shape to its much talked about rehabilitation package for Kashmir Pandit migrants in Valley. According to sources, some KP organizations and NGOs are working in close coordination with Central and State government on this issue and have in principal agreed to give all logistic support and cooperation to Government in making the package a success. Sources said that the leaders of these factions and Government are in an agreement that there should be symbolic return of the displaced people to Valley in case all members of displaced community show some reservations about the return and rehabilitation formula set in motion by Union Government few years back. They said even some KP organizations working outside country and claiming themselves to be the representatives of Pandits in India as well as abroad are actively working on this formula and they have succeeded in influencing some KP Overseas organizations as well as those working in Jammu and who for all practical purposes are the affiliates of this all India based KP organizations. Sources said getting a positive response from these organisations the officials of Union Home Ministry and State Government are working overtime to set the process in motion. To give practical shape to the formula on which the leaders of these KP organization and its leaders have reached an understanding with the Government, some top class leaders of these organizations also visited Kashmir Valley and Jammu to mobilize the community opinion in this regard. However facing stiff opposition from protagonists of homeland and separate state demand within Valley for settlement of over seven lakh Kashmiri Pandits, the KP organization has succeeded in motivating the Government to construct the clusters at district headquarters for the settlement of migrants instead of their original places in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in Kashmir, sources said. Sources said the Government is also in agreement of this demand and it has no problem in constructing 300 t0 400 sets at district headquarters for the rehabilitation of migrants instead of settling them at a single township as demanded by other KP organizations. The leader of the KP organization and its affiliates in Jammu who are particular about the return of Pandits to Valley have been accusing the Government of doing a little in this regard since the announcement of PM's rehabilitation package for Kashmiri migrants, sources said. To avoid further criticism and its awkward position before the Union Government during the subsequent meetings between the KP representatives and Parliamentary Standing Committee, the Apex Committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister recently at Srinagar gave a green signal to construction of 400 clusters at district headquarters in Valley for the settlement of the Pandits, sources added. Sources said this decision has also been rejected by the migrants in general who are of the view that the people who have not seen the exodus can't take any decision on the rehabilitation of migrants in Valley especially those who have been languishing in camps for last 24 years of turmoil. They said that any decision on return will only work after taking the people who are actual migrants into confidence. |
