| Soni arriving today, Azad too may show presence | | Congress convention in SKICC on Sunday | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 20: After over three weeks of holding a convention in Jammu, Congress top brass is organizing a similar function in Srinagar on September 22 to have an assessment of the party at the ground level in entire Kashmir Valley. Ambika Soni in charge Congress J&K state is arriving in Srinagartomorrow whereas Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is likely to be there in the summer capital on Sunday morning. A conspicuous difference however remains that in Jammu if it was a huge crowd comprising genuine cadres and functionaries from across the entire region, in Srinagar show the party has sought participation of even those who remotely associated with the party.
Sources said even though the Sunday function being organized at SKICC by J&K PCC would be on a scale as seen here in Jammu but since the strength of the cadres and members in Kashmir is far less as compared to Jammu region, the leaders have given invitation to those who seldom remain associated with one party for more than six months. There are some invitees for the Congress show on Sunday who are not in the mainstream politics, said the sources explaining their participation may add to the numbers in terms of show of strength but it may not augur well for the party on political grounds.
The PCC functionaries are working overnight to give final shape to the preparations on all fronts in order to make it a successful show particularly in presence of Ambika Soni. However, one more conspicuous aspect related to the ongoing preparations for the SKICC convention is that some leaders are still working in divided camps and making the preparations also a matter of competition as per loyalties are concerned.
Even though the two stalwarts Prof Saif-u-Din Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad who all though remained two poles apart , a fact which determined the composition of the two divided factions of Congress at the state level, have now lately put a united face , no matter for the larger interests and electoral prospects of the party, there are some leaders down the line who want to keep this division and factionalism alive, said the sources. There are some leaders who are working in opposite directions even in trivial matter of making hoardings and posters adorned with pictures of the two leaders for the convention on Sunday. However, no attention is being paid to their acts by the leadership at this point of time as it is only keen to turn the event successful and result oriented as per the requirement of getting a feedback by the party incharge, said the sources |
