ZEO Thatri works overtime to set records right | Examination fee scam | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 20: The ZEO Thatri is working overtime to show that the amount he received fraudulently from students as examination fee was refunded. Pertinent to mention an enquiry is pending against him on the issue. The ZEO had received Rs 180 from all the students in his zone as examination fee. Taking cognizance of a news report published by a local newspaper, the government ordered an enquiry into the issue. Pertinently the ZEO has admitted that an amount od Rs 150 was collected from the students. According to reports, the papers are being manipulated in such a way so as to show to the enquiry committee that out of Rs 150 Rs 40 are being refunded. The actual fee decided by the SEI is Rs 110. The order was circulated in the entire zone. Soon after the Thatri expose, it was learnt that additional fee was collected from all the zones in Doda district. The idea was to swindle Rs 3, 15, 320 at Rs 40 extra from each student. The total number of students in the district is 7883 excluding Bhatyas Zone. The CEO Doda said that a verbal direction to collect RS 150 from the students was issued by the Principal DIET Doda. However, he said that no such direction had been issued. But it was later established that a direction was issued by Chief Education Office (CEO) Doda, to charge examination fee at the rate of Rs 150 per student ignoring the circular of DIET Doda. This has been confirmed by the sub-ordinate staff of all the examination zones of the district. But after the scam came to fore, the district authorities issued a direction to refund the overcharged fee to the students.
