| J&K, Punjab among winners in U-14 cricket | | | Sports Reporter SRINAGAR, Oct 2: Hosts Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Chattisgarh, Gujarat and Jharkhand won their respective ties to strengthen their position in the league round of the ongoing National School Games under-14 boys' cricket, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at different venues, here today. In a match played at Higher Secondary School, Bijbehara ground, here, J&K defeated Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC) by 10 runs. Batting first, after winning the toss, J&K set a target of 124 runs for seven wickets in given 20 overs. Mujeeb-ul-Haq remained top scorer with 45 runs while Muneeb Ali contributed 29. In reply, IPSC could not reach the required total and exhausted their quota of overs for 113 runs losing six wickets. Rahul and Raja Haroon took two wickets each from J&K. In another match of the day, Chattisgarh defeated Andhra Pradesh by four wickets. Batting first, Andhra bowled out for paltry 96 runs, which, in reply, Chattisgarh chased in 19 overs for six wickets. Meanwhile, Jharkhand registered an easy eight wickets win over Tamil Nadu. Batting first, Tamil Nadu lost all their wickets for 107 runs which, in reply, Jharkhand chased in 19 overs making 108 runs for two wickets. Meanwhile, Punjab, Gujarat and West Bengal also won their respective matches. While Punjab defeated Rajasthan by six wickets, Gujarat also trounced Karnataka by six wickets. West Bengal beat Tamil Nadu by eight wickets Batting first, Tamil Nadu made 100 runs losing six wickets. In reply, West Bengal reached the target in 16.3 overs for two wickets. In another league match of the day, Uttar Pradesh (UP) defeated Chandigarh by 35 runs. Batting first, .UP set a target of 123 for seven wickets in allotted 20 overs. Chasing the target, Chandigarh could manage only 88 for nine wickets in given 20 overs. |
