KISHTWAR, Oct 2: A 17 year old identified as Ajay Kumar son of Sewa Ram resident of Begana Kishtwar arrested by the Special Investigation Team probing August 9 Kishtwar communal violence was allegedly tortured by the police in custody. He was shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar by his family members, where after taking cognizance of his critical condition, doctors at District Hospital Kishtwar referred him to Government Medical College Jammu.
While talking to "Early Times" Babita Devi sister of the youth said that Ajay was detained by the SIT a week ago and since then they committed atrocities on him in custody as a result of which he (Ajay) received critical internal injuries. She alleged that SIT after committing the crime dropped him at home last night where he started vomiting and added that after seeing his condition, the family members shifted him to District Hospital Kishtwar last night. She said that after conducting a series of tests on her brother, the doctor referred him to Government Medical College Jammu for advance treatment. She said that Ajay was in state of shock and fear and was not able to talk. She said that during custody, police even did not offer him food and water and instead committed atrocities on him. She said that her brother was innocent and added that SIT is trying to implicate him in false case. She claimed that her brother was juvenile and in support of her claim, family also produced some certificates that Ajay Kumar was born on 06-03-1997.
Various public representatives also accused SIT of bias and alleged that innocent people were being framed while the real culprits were roaming free. Family members of Parvaiz Ahmed Butt also accused the SIT of bias.
It is pertinent to mention here that Kishtwar police registered 15 FIRs in connection with August 9 and 10 violence at Kishtwar and Padder. SIT along with Kishtwar police has so far produced 6 challans before court and arrested over 50 persons for rioting in which three persons died, beside the rioters went on rampage and indulged in loot and arson of both public and government properties. No arrest has been made so far in connection with 3 murder cases.
