| Disabled by accident, carpenter's family survives in ruins | | Spouse engaged as SPO sacked after 45 days | | Javid A Malla BARAMULLA, Oct 2: A tragic road accident ruined the life of old town family after a police Rakshak vehicle hit head of the family at new town Baramulla and left him disabled forever. Ghulam Mohmmmad Najar son of Ghulam Rashool Najar, 36 of Qazihamanm old town, Baramulla was working as carpenter before the accident struck family and smashed their only source of sustenance. Since last more than four years, Najar's family is left to starve as the only bread winner has been left incapacitated. Najar is survived by three little daughters and wife Shakeela Begum. After running from pillar to post for years, Baramulla police on the compensatory basis engaged Najar's wife Shakeela as Special Police Officail (SPO) under reference RPHQ Baramulla letter no CS/ Eng-SPO's 3452- 53 dated April 17 2010 on monthly honorium of Rs 3000. "This order shall not confer any right for their permanent engagement and can be disengaged any time without assigning any reason" the order read. The family, however, accused the police of playing a foul game with family and termed the order in favour of NoK totally fake. "After running from pillar to post, the then SSP Baramulla, Shakeel Ahmad Beigh issued an order for engagement in favour of my wife, but after one and a half month she was terminated without any reason. I had no family member who can earn. We are forced to live a devastated life," Najar said. Najar says a local NGO Falahu ud Darein Baramulla and locals are extending helping hand. He blames the government and authorities for failing to provide assistance to family. "I am struggling for Indra Awas Yojna Ration Card in the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department Baramulla, but since years I have been denied. My name is only on cards," Najar said. "The people with good living conditions here are in possession of IAY Ration Cards. I have been going to CAPD office Baramulla since last 4 years but to no avail," he adds. Living in a crumbling house, Najar whose house also suffered damage in 2008 earthquake was also listed by Municipal Committe Baramulla under its one of the house construction schemes, under which he has only received one instalment from the department. Meanwhile, the family has urged the government especially Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene into the matter to provide relief to family as compensation. |
