| Race between Kashmir centric parties | | Raise emotive issues to outwit each other | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 2: With elections due in next year the Kashmir centric political parties are in race to outclass each other by raising emotive issues to exploit the sentiments of people in the Valley. While National Conference (NC) is opt repeated making the reiteration of removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and withdrawal of Army from militancy infested state without paying any heed to ground realities, the Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in its bid to surpass the NC has accused India of treating J&K as its colony. According to political analysts the two Kashmir centric parties are making the statements keeping in view the forthcoming Assembly and Parliamentary elections which are due in next year. The two parties which are eying on their political constituency in Kashmir are in race to outwit each other, analysts feel. They said though there is a decline in the popularity graph in favour of NC in Kashmir Valley and PDP and other local parties are gaining ground, but the opt repeated statements of Omar Abdullah regarding revocation of AFSPA and removal of army has forced the PDP to score some points more than him by taking an anti India posture and showing that the Party is more closer to public sentiments than NC or any Kashmir centric party. The stand of PDP taken on the disclosures of Gen (retd) V K Singh and terming Kashmir as colony of India reveals that the Party does not want NC to gain foothold in Kashmir, said political analysts. This stand of the two political parties will also lead to polarization in the State especially in Kashmir Valley, feel analysts. The analysts are also of the opinion that in the given situation the Congress which had earlier won three seats from Valley will be the loser in Kashmir as its tie up with NC in formation of Government after 2008 elections went to its greatest disadvantage politically. This has been reason that Congress Ministers are trying to maintain distance from NC and stay away from joint functions. The Congress which neither can toe the line of NC nor PDP so far as Kashmir politics is concerned has to take a nationalistic stand on the issue, said analysts, adding its ambiguous stand on the statements of Omar Abdullah or PDP will put the party into a great trouble in forthcoming general elections as BJP will corner the party on the issue. According to analysts the Congress Party can only come out of the situation in case it takes a rigid and independent stand on the issue which neither supports the PDP nor NC stand. This can be only way out for the Congress otherwise Party to take on its opponents in Jammu region or rest of the country. |
