early times report Jammu, Oct 2: Government College for Women, Parade Ground organized a two day workshop on biotechnology sponsored by the J&K State Council for Science and Technology, Dept. of Science and Technology, J&K. The resource persons of the workshop were Dr. Swarkar Sharma and Dr. Ekta Rai from Sri Mata Vaishnodevi University, Katra, Dr. Parvinder Kumar from University of Jammu and Dr. Sandeep Dogra from Govt. Medical College, Jammu. The resource persons dealt with different aspects of Microbiology and Biotechnology like history, scope and origin of Microbiology and Biotechnology; enrichment culture techniques and culture media; Spectrophotometry and Colorimetry; Industrial products derived from microbes; Infectious Disease Transmission. Dr Pragya Khanna, the organizing secretary of the program said that the workshop had been especially organized to provide an exposure to the students of the newly inducted course of Biotechnology which the College had started from the current session. Looking at the overwhelming response of the students for the subject many other students from the medical stream were trained in the workshop. Dr Hemla Aggarwal, Principal of the college revealed that the college under the Star College Scheme had developed full infrastructural facilities consisting of Hi-Tech equipment to aid such modern sciences and the college shall be organizing more such programs in future. The faculty members present on the occasion were Dr Neeraj Kumar, Dr Chanchal Angral, Dr Nitasha Sawhney, Dr Shallu Sambyal, Dr Yash Paul, Dr Deepti, Dr R.K. Pandita and Dr Preeti Bajaj. |
