EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Association today conferred Bharat Ratna Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar award to Kirpa Ram of village Langotian in tehsil RS Pura for his consistence service in promoting ideology of Ambedkar. The association also gave away gold medals to meritorious students from Batwal community, which included Rani Devi, Usha Kiran, Ruby Sandhu, Poonam Sandhu, Ajay Kumar, Vijay Lakshmi, Renu Bala, Surinder Kumar, Sunil Kumar, Vijay Kumar and Shashi Kumar. The association also honored Lt Col (retd) Manohar Lal Kaith for his eminent service to humanity. On this occasion general secretary, RL Kaith said that the association is proud by honoring Ambedkar mission revivalist, students and others, who have been working tirelessly in the service of the community. The association also honoured GR Kaith, Capt Puran Chand and Sub Hans Raj for their service to humanity. The association on the occasion also discussed some issues pertaining to the community and said that Batwal Community is being neglected at all levels by the state government, due to which they are plunging to abject poverty. Members of the association also maintained that the reservation benefits of the Batwal Community are being enjoyed by the politically backed people. They further lambasted BOPEE for not entertaining MBBS aspirants in the final list and said that their students are being neglected because of being poor. They also demanded Economic cum Employment Package in the favour of Batwal Community based on the report of its Ethnographic study in 1994. Prominent among others present on the occasion included Gunni Ram, Ram Dass, Madan Raj, PP Motan, Bawa Ram, Chaman Lal, Ravi Kumar, Bharat Bhushan and Naresh Kumar. |
