| Tragedy averted, but govt nonchalant on road encroachment | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Oct 2: The residents of Kathua accused the district administration of not being able to address the problems of unnecessary and illegal parking at Parliwand road near TDS College of Education where a family riding on motorcycle collided with parked four vehicles on wayside at Parliwand road and narrowly escaped from a major tragedy at Kathua here today. When a family, husband wife and their kin was riding on motorcycle heading towards their home, it suddenly collided with the parked vehicles at Parliwand road near TDS Education college because of narrowness of the road which is being encroached by the parked vehicles and a major tragedy could have been occurred but for fortunately the family members remained uninjured. In fact the road at Parliwand is very spacious and has the adequate capacity to deal the present number of vehicles in Kathua but the haphazard parking on the road and illegal encroachment is the biggest cause to reduce narrow road which has become havoc and difficult to pass any other vehicle which further lead to huge and congestive jamming and such chances of accidents. A lot of commuters face problems while driving on the Kathua, where the footpath and median are used as parking lots. "Traffic officials never take note of the problem. Rampant illegal parking causes mishaps frequently on the stretch," said a local resident. However, he conceded that there was no parking place in the area. The residents Sunny, Shami, Neeraj, Tony, and several others who rushed on spot where the accident occurred and brought the injured to hospital for immediate medical treatment at district Hospital Kathua, alleged that administration is totally failed to clear the roads by lifting the unnecessary and illegal parking on the road which has posed gigantic threats of occurring of accidents. |
