| JCC's 'candle march' bid foiled in Srinagar, Jammu : Many detained | | | Et Report
Srinagar/Jammu, Oct 2 : Police today foiled the candle light march processions in both capital towns scheduled to be taken out by Government employees from Poloview to Chief Minister's residence in Srinagar and near Civil Secretariat in Jammu to protest against the delay in 'fulfillment' of their demands including removal of pay anomalies and enhancement in the retirement age from 58 to 60 years. According to eyewitness huge deployment of police was already made near Poloview to foil the protest bid. The employees were cane charged by the police when they started taking out the procession. Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) spokesman while talking to Kashmir based news agency KNS said that several leaders including Abdul Qayoom wani, Nusrat Beigh, Basharat Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi Ganae, Nasir Ali and Shabir Ahmad including other were arrested by the police and were detained in Police station Kothi Bagh. Meanwhile JCC spokesman has further stated that the scheduled protest programme has not been cancelled and the employees are informed to assemble near the Civil Secretariat Srinagar to make the 'Secretariat gherao' a success.JCC has called for the five-days protest programme from October 1-5, after the talks with the Government failed to reach any conclusion. In a similar candle light protest in winter capital a large number of employees under the leadership Gaffoor Dar assembled outside Petrol Pump Dogra Hall in close vicinity of Civil Secretariat Complex this evening. Holding candles and amid sloganeering against state government and highlighting their demands the protestors started their march towards Civil Secretariat. However the police deployment outside the Zanana Park Jammu foiled their candle march and detained some of union leaders namely Gaffoor Dar, Bikram Singh and Darshan Singh. Meanwhile, the government today said that the employees should shun confrontational attitude and join talks. Talking to KNS, Minister for Medical Education Taj Mohi-u-Din, who is also the member of cabinet sub-committee dealing with employee demands, said that government should not be compelled to adopt for any harsh steps. "The Government can go to any extent if it is really keen to crush the agitation. But this government never wants any confrontation with its own employees. We want all the issues to be sorted out through talks."Meantime Chief Secretary J&K, too has asked all the district administrations to take necessary action against employees who don't join their duties in protest. |
