Katra, Oct 5: Deputy Chief Minister's late arrival in Katra left thousands of school children inconvenienced. The Minister had to inaugurate the Navratra festival. As usual, this year also students of 27 government and private schools, attired in uniforms of their respective schools, reached Katra town at around 9:30 AM and stood in queues along roadside to welcome chief guest and religious procession, which was to pass through the route. The Katra festival was schedule to be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand along with Tourism Minister and some other bureaucrats at sharp 10:30 AM, but the wait ended at around 3 PM when the ministers finally arrived. Deputy Chief Minister reached Katra at 2:35, four hours late of schedule and after around 25 minutes, at around 3 PM, he finally inaugurated the festival. "Our children had to wait for around six hours, without any food or refreshment," a teacher pleading anonymity said, adding that it was only the school administration, which provided some refreshment to students. An official questioned the need to gather school children for welcoming the chief guest. "Even Governor NN Vohra was present at Katra since morning. At around 9:25 AM, Governor visited Bhawan and at 12:10 he inaugurated two establishments at Katra town. Why Governor was not made chief guest by the authorities. He is a punctual person, but our leaders are not and have no right to harass the students", he said. |
