| Government shields NC legislators, politicians; axe falls on poor Mir | | | Mustansir srinagar, Oct 5: Senior PDP leader and MLA Chadoora, Javed Mustafa Mir today leveled serious allegation against the Government for acting selectively on the High Court directions wherein the court had directed the SMC Srinagar to seal the illegal constructions in the capital city. At least 19 buildings, operating as commercial outlets in violation of the Srinagar Master Plan, were sealed by the authorities following directions from the State High Court. Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) sealed the buildings in posh Jawahar Nagar area yesterday in view of the directions passed by the High Court last week. However, MLA Chadoora, Javed Mustafa Mir today raised the issue in the Assembly alleging that the Government was acting selectively on the directions of the High Court and was shielding the blue eyed including some NC legislators who have raised huge constructions on the city outskirts. "The Government was selective in its approach and was even misleading the High Court by submitting a compliance report about sealing 19 structures in one particular locality ignoring the fact that the big violators have not been touched only because some NC legislators are on the top of the list of Master Plan Violators. Though the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mir Saifullah tried to convince the MLA by stating that the matter was sub-judice and the Government was acting on the directions of the High Court, however, Javed Mustafa presented a copy of the report indicating the long list of Srinagar Master Plan Violators which according to him includes some legislators of ruling National Conference. Pertinently the High Court, which is hearing a public interest litigation on illegal constructions and encroachments, had directed the SMC to seal the buildings which had come up in violation of the Master Plan and were issued show cause notices and demolition order in 2009, he said. Influential people, many of them politicians, have allegedly constructed commercial buildings in various parts of the city after obtaining permission from the SMC for construction of residential houses or guest houses. The most blatant violations have come up on Panthachowk-Parimpora stretch of the National Highway where many car dealerships are operating in violation of the Master Plan. The owners of buildings and shops in Jawahar Nagar have accused the authorities of selectively targeting them while leaving the influential politicians untouched. |
