Srinagar, Oct 5 : While a fresh infiltration bid near Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir's Kupwara district was foiled in which four ultras reportedly were killed, the Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, GOC-in-C, Northern Command today visited forward areas of Keran sector in North Kashmir's Kupwara district, sources said.General Chachra, accompanied with GOC 15-Corps, General Gurmit Singh conducted 'ariel survey' of Keran Sector to take stock of the security situation in the recently active sector due to counter insurgency operations.
Soon after taking aerial visit of Keran Sector, the officers held a meeting with other senior Army officers of Kupwara district at Army's 28 Infantry Division and discussed various issues including recent intrusion by militants in Shalabatoo area near Keran Sector of Line of Control (LoC), rise in infiltration across LoC and other security related issues, official sources while talking to Global News Service (GNS) said.Meantime reliable sources said in yet another infiltration bid a group of four to five well-armed militants at about 10:30 pm Friday night managed to sneak into Indian side near Fateh Gali in Keran Sector which lies about 4 kilometers from Shalabatoo area of same sector.However the alert troops of 12 Garhwal Rifles challenged the militants ensuing gun battle which lasted for an hour in the area reportedly resulting into killing of four unidentified militants and injuring a trooper. "The trooper has been identified as Hawaldar Parveen Singh and was shifted to Army Hospital, Drugmulla, Kupwara, sources said.Official sources shared with anew agency that Army has launched massive search operation across Kupwara forests which include Divar, Gagal, Doorswani, Sheikh Nad , Kant Pora, Jumgand, Chowkibal, Trum Nad, Manchithar and Batpora forests following the rise in infiltration attempts from across the border. Para troopers along 3/3 GR, 15 RR, 16 GR and 5 ASSAM have intensified the combing operation and are about to combat with militants in Shalabatoo area of Keran Sector, they added. A senior Army official on anonymity told news agency that four militants were killed after alert troops foiled an infiltration bid in Fateh Gali near Keran Sector and a war like stores including six AK-47, ten pistols, four UBGL, four Disposable Rocket Launchers and six small rucksacks have been recovered so far from the encounter site. Meanwhile Defence spokesperson Srinagar in a statement said that in the next two days, Army Commander is scheduled to visit the forward formations and units to review the anti-infiltration grid. "He'll also review the ongoing operations being conducted by the Army," the spokesperson said. "General Chachra will also call on Governor N.N .Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah," spokesperson added.
