10/5/2013 10:35:59 PM
Et Report

Srinagar, Oct 5 : A large number of state government employees were detained and cane charged by Police on Saturday when they tried to stage 'Civil Secretariat gherao' as per the schedule of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) here at Srinagar alleging that government has failed to fulfill its promises. As per reports and eyewitnesses on record to Kashmir based news agency GNS, the work at government offices remained affected as a section of Jammu and Kashmir employees held protests and tried to march from Sher-i-Kashmir Park towards Civil Secretariat which was foiled by heavy contingent of police.
"Government is using every tool to crush our voice. We are demanding our genuine rights which government has to fulfill at any cost," a group of employees while talking to news agency said, further adding that some political leaders are playing politics over this issue which is pathetic on their part.
Meanwhile, family members of JCC leader Abdul Qayoom Wani told GNS that Qayoom has been shifted to Central Jail from Kothi Bagh Police Station. "We tried to meet him but authorities didn't allow us." They also alleged that government is treating Qayoom as "criminal".
However, Finance Minister and Chairman Cabinet Sub Committee (CSC), Abdul Rahim Rather on Saturday out-rightly refused to enhance the retirement age of the state employees and alleged the employees' leaders are showing rigidity resulting in the trouble for common men.Minister also said, "Now ball in the court of assembly to decide about the enhancement of the retirement age." Rather was replying to a question raised in the legislative assembly by CPI (M), leader MY Tarigami.
