Anantnag, Oct 21: Pahalgam Village on the left side of river Lidder continues to face acute shortage of drinking water as the water supply scheme meant for the village is being illegally used by the owners of huts and hotels which they have constructed illegally during the year. Residents of Wahidan Dalseer Phalgam told early times that they are facing acute shortage of drinking water because the hut and hotel owners in Movera area in nexus with PHE employees have holed the water supply pipe line and got the connections illegally due to which the taps in the village are running dry.
They said the affluent people who have constructed huts and hotels in Movera area, while violating the high court directive are forcing them to migrate from the area as the locals due to the shortage of drinking water are being forced to fetch the water from river Lidder that according to locals is not enough safe to drink. "We are facing shortage of drinking water only because the hut and hotel owners at Movera have holed the pipe line and in nexus with tainted employees got the connections illegally. Taps in our village are running dry and our ladies are fetching water from Lidder that in not enough safe to drink," Mohd Iqbal, a resident said, adding affluent people who continue to violate the state high court in the area by constructing huts and hotels are now forcing them to migrate. He said that it is irony that department forces us to drink the water of river Lidder which is prone to different diseases and honorable High court itself has found hepatitis B positive symptoms in the Lidder water earlier this month. Locals said despite repeated appeals and requests department and the local representative failed to mitigate our problems. PHE officials despite repeated attempts couldn't be contacted for a comment.
