| NC opened 'channels'............., Congress follows 'suit' | | Congress pays in 'same coin' to ally in power | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 21: In what can be seen as paying its alliance partner National Conference in the same coin, Congress today took in its own fold the stalwarts hitherto associated with the party or those who demonstrated staunch loyalty with the NC in past. Even as PDP leaders also joined the Congress, but the rude shock came to NC, it being the ally, also because it pinned hopes on substantial help coming from the coalition partner in coming elections. A 'tit for tat' move, Congress only followed what NC did in the past few months is not only openly alluring its senior leaders but in a way snatching Congress prospects at some places by taking them in the party fold and demonstrating it as a 'triumphant' gesture over the party. Sources in the party say this is only a beginning and many more stalwarts from NC are waiting for proper time to make formal entry into the Congress. There are leaders both from Kashmir and Jammu region who are more than willing to join the Congress for more than one reason, sources said adding that crony politics as also the intensified culture of sycophancy coupled with a visible divide among old timers and the young lot are the factors that are pushing some senior leaders into oblivion . They see no prospects for proper 'growth and elevation' nor chances to get 'accommodated ' in echelons of power from the party leadership due to centralized decision making power , sources added. Some leaders who matter as credible and well known figures have also made up mind in switching over sides after realizing the waning political footing and ground in both the regions for NC and they have made their mind known to Congress leadership with regard to joining the party , sources further said. Congress will however make that move after some time as a part of its consolidation strategy which would eventually fetch the party electoral benefits in big way, said the sources from the party . The party leadership nourishes no guilt as it was only NC which started this culture of making dents in the constituencies of the ally even while they continue to survive on its support in ruling the state. NC did not care about respecting coalition dharma , so has the Congress answered them in that tone and tenor , said the leader. It is NC which opened such channels and such moves would now be cashed in on full in coming days by the Congress , he said adding that the party has only damaged the prospects of pre poll alliance and other such friendly gestures. |
