| India putting all its eggs in a wrong basket | | Exposing Pakistani double-speak | | Neha JAMMU, Oct 21: The Congress-led UPA Government is playing with fire by trusting Pakistani Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, who came back to power in June this year with the support of rabidly anti-India terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, founder of the dreaded Lashkar-e-Toiba. The Congress party in general and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in particular have been reposing faith in Mian Nawaz Sharif again and again overlooking what the Pakistani Army, Pakistani Rangers, Pakistani Inter-Service Intelligence and Pakistan-backed, aided, protected and trained terrorists have been doing along the LoC and International Border, as also sometimes deep inside the Indian territories even since Mian Nawaz Sharif took over as Pakistan Prime Minister in June for the third time. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Sonia Congress are, in fact, doing disservice to the nation by pinning faith in a man who ditched India in 1999 and who has been ditching India on a daily basis since June this year. It would be only desirable to quote verbatim what Pakistan's former Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqni said in his interview to a leading national daily the other day about Mian Nawaz Sharif . He said: "I had worked with Nawaz Sharif long ago and for a relatively short time. I think he is essentially a good man who does not always understand complex issues well. Also, he sometimes carries contradictory ideas in his head. So, on the one hand he wants good relations with India, and on the other he does not understand that this can't be achieved without tying the hands of people like Hafiz Saeed. He wants good relations with the United States, but he does not want to cross the line in terms of Pakistan's Afghan policy. My fear is that he will not be able to bring any major change in national direction that Pakistan desperately needs today". Haqqani said everything about Mian Nawaz Sharif in a sophisticated way. He clearly said that Mian Nawaz Sharif has soft corner for Hafiz Saeed whose single point agenda, like other terror outfits and the Pakistani Army, ISI and even the political establishment of Pakistan, is to bleed and disintegrate India, annex Jammu & Kashmir to establish stranglehold over the precious Indus Waters and avenge the 1971 defeat that resulted in the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign country out of Pakistan. It is difficult to believe that the Indian Foreign Office is not aware of the antics of Nawaz Sharif and his administration; it knows everything, but conducting itself in a most irresponsible manner. It is time for the Congress and the UPA Government to realize the harm they have done to India by reposing faith in a man who just cannot be trusted and evolve a new foreign policy that is guided by the Indian geo-political interests rather than the Pakistani interests and interests of those who wish to break India once again to satisfy their communal urges. |
