Congress MP says act against Pak, NC provincial president counters him
Coalition of contradictions

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 21: The NC and the Congress are coalition partners. The NC is leading the government and the Congress is its part. The coalition was formed after the 2008 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and NC working president Omar Abdullah, who earlier had served as minister in the BJP-led NDA Government, became the Chief Minister. He formed the government on January 5, 2009.
Ever since then, the NC and the Congress have been pulling in different directions, leave alone the fact that the most of the Congress ministers have not created any problem for Omar Abdullah, notwithstanding the fact that some senior NC ministers have never missed any opportunity to counter the Congress' views on various issues and lower its position in the eyes of the people.
As for the relationship between the two parties outside the government, the Congress leaders have for most of the time denounced the NC leadership and maintained that the NC has all along exploited its position in the government to not only expand its support-base at the cost of the Congress party, but has also all through refused to accommodate its views while evolving and implementing the government policies.
Take, for example, the attitude of the NC towards the Congress' demand seeking adoption of 73rd and 74th Constitutional amendments in order to empower the elected panchayats and panchs and sarpanchs. The entire Congress leadership at the local level has been consistently saying since 2009 that these amendments will be adopted and local-self-governing institutions strengthened, but the NC never accepted the Congress's demand and this, notwithstanding the fact that the NC cannot remain in power even for a moment without the Congress' support. This is just one example that indicates that the NC-Congress is a coalition of contradictions and disparate elements.
The latest example is the contradictory response of the Congress and the NC to the ceasefire violations by Pakistan and the havoc these violations have wrecked during the past few days. During the past one week, Pakistan has violated ceasefire/breached International Border at least 25 times and the result has been sense of insecurity among the people living along the International Border. Feeling insecure, several villagers have migrated from their homes and hearths to safer places, including schools and the process of migration is on.
The Congress MP from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency is fully aware of the nature of crisis that has gripped the people of the border areas and that's the reasons he has urged the authorities to act against Pakistan in a manner that deters Islamabad and creates sense of security among the suffering people. He has been asking the authorities to ensure that the border people are not uprooted. He, in short, is trying to make common cause with the border people whose life has become very difficult following the aggravation of situation along the International Border and Line of Control.
In contrast, the NC provincial president (Jammu province) has adopted a line different from that of the Congress MP. Instead of attacking Pakistan and holding its responsible for what has been happening on the International Border and the Line of Control, he has urged the Government of India to talk to Pakistan. It is not necessary to explain the implications of his line, as it is not difficult to understand the meaning of what he has said. All this shows that the NC and the Congress do not share each other' view.
