10/26/2013 9:03:25 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, 26 Oct: Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today expressed concern over the recent unjustified 25% cut in various developmental plans finalized and approved by respective District Development Boards. He said the Chief Minister himself must explain the reasons for this move which has not only affected the credibility of DDBs and its members but also put Government functionaries in dock. Vakil termed the action as arbitrary, unethical and illogical.
He said that the said action at this point of time, when developmental projects either are in final execution phase or are ready for commissioning, is mischievous, surprising and beyond prudence. He said that Government must come clear, how and at whose behest the action has been contemplated. It is duty of the Government to find ways and means for clearing accrued work done liabilities subsequent to effecting 25% cut in approved allocations, Vakil added. He was addressing a public meeting at Gundhasibhat Srinagar.
While addressing the gathering Vakil said congress is determined to ensure equitable development of all the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Congress's main focus is to develop Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh equitably. He said Congress will ensure that there was no discrimination against any region. Congress has always advocated balanced and equitable development of all three regions as it strengthens the bonds of unity and integrity of the state.
Cautioning the people about the communal and divisive forces in the state, the AICC member said that Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have to stay together and people should understand the designs of such forces and strengthen secularism, unity and integrity of the state.
Exhorting the people to strengthen Congress, the former minister said that the only way for this is to serve the people as has been said by Sonia Gandhi who has described politics as another name of service to people. He said that all party men including ministers have to work hard in addressing the problems of the people and come up to their expectations to further strengthen the party.
Senior Congress Leader and District President DCC Srinagar presided over the function. Ghulam Ahmad Lone, Arif Maqbool, Irfan Naqib and several others addressed the gathering.
