JAMMU, Oct 26: Two officials working in the personnel staff of two powerful Cabinet Ministers have turned overnight rich with one purchasing a house worth Rs. 1.5 crore in Bhathindi area of Jammu city.
The other has purchased a brand new Honda city. According to sources, these two have earned riches during the last four months. Eyewitnesses maintain that both have been taking extraordinary precaution in ensuring that their wealth remains hidden from public eye. Neither have their bank accounts swelled nor have they opened any new account in the banks across the state, said the sources. Instead, officials assert that the two have kept the money in the accounts belonging to close relatives. They maintain that one of these two new Crorepatis has used connections of his in-laws to keep his wealth a top secret. All precautions have been taken to ensure that the wealth earned during the last four months does not catch eyes of the Vigilance and Crime Branch.
According to officials, the official who is considered close to the Cabinet Minister has allegedly purchased a house costing Rs. 1.5 crore in Bhathindi area of Jammu city is yet to shift to this new palatial residence. The palatial house is located close to the residence of ex-Chief Minister and Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
Sources disclosed that the official has purchased the house on the name of his wife and has shown it as gift from his father-in-law. Since most of the land in Bhathindi belongs to forest department, the official faced little difficulties in purchasing the said property since the same was not required to be registered. Sources said that the official has also purchased a huge piece of land in Sidhra.
They further said that the entire payment for the land was made in cash and that too within a week's time. Sources put the cost of land at Rs. 40 Lakh. They assert that of the two Cabinet Ministers, one knows well about the fortune earned by his close confidant while other is unaware of the newly earned wealth of his close aide. Sources further said that most of this wealth has come from transfer business.
They added that the other official who has purchased brand new Honda city has limited sources of income. Though his wife is working in the government sector, sources said that purchasing a car worth Rs 8 lakhs was difficult for this official who is actually from the non-gazetted cadre. They further said that an in-depth inquiry into the wealth accumulated by these two officials would unveil the continued murky business of money exchanging hands in lieu of choice postings.
