12th class exam begins in Kishtwar on disappointed note
Lecturers engaged on magistrate duty yet to join schools

Kishtwar, Oct 26: Over 2500 students of Kishtwar District who today appeared in 12th class examination has showed their anger against the authorities for not extending the date of examination as the students community of Kishtwar District falling in winter zone examination has suffered badly due to continuous spat of earthquakes followed by the August 9 communal clashes.
While talking to the "Early Times" majority of the students said that due to natural calamity and communal clashes, the syllabus in majority of subjects in all categories including Medical, Non Medical and Arts streams remains incomplete.
The students said that all the schools remains mostly closed for 3-4 months. "Poor students who can't effort private tuitions are worst effected students" said a student from Padder. He said that poor students mostly remain dependent on schooling and shows his apprehension that majority of the students appearing in 12th class examination will fail to get good percentage in the examination. The students hope that board officials will adopt lenient approach at the time of checking of answer sheets.
Examination in majority of the centres located in and around Kishtwar town ended peacefully, but reports of mass copying in rural areas have been reported. In Chatroo large number of people assembled outside examination centers to help candidates through illegal means.
Various teachers associations have also taken a strong note on reports of mass copying saying everyone understands that students of Kishtwar District suffered due earthquakes and Eid violence, but mass copying cannot be justified. "We will made a request to JKBOSE officials for grace marking or lenient marking of question papers, but selective mass copy is a non compromise-able issue" said a teacher wishing anonymity. Many heads of the private and government schools expected low pass percentage in the said examination.
Meanwhile over a dozen lecturers including six from Boys Higher Secondary School Kishtwar who have been deputed by the District administration for magistrate duty are yet to resume their duties in respective schools even after three months as a result of which students of 11th class suffered badly. "We came to school daily with the hope that teachers will teach us, but return home after spending some time in school as no one is available to teach us" said a student of 11th class. The students said that with the beginning of 12th class examination majority of the lecturers and teachers other than those engaged by the administration for magistrate duty are busy in conducting examination in respective schools adding woes to the student community. They demanded immediate detachment of lecturers engaged by the administration on magistrate duty.
It is pertinent to mention that as per the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Baseer Ahmed Khan, 13 officers has been appointed as duty magistrate for ensuring the law and order situation which include 11 lecturers namely Arshad Hussain, Pardeep Kumar, Krishan Lal, Raiz Ahmed Butt, Jai Lal, Raiz ul Haq, Baber Amin, Sandeep Singh, Chander Prakash, Abdul Hafiz and Chander Shekhar.
