Hope walks up to disabled through Jain Sabha's initiative

JAMMU, Oct 26 : Shri Atam Valabh Jain Sabha, a religious organization of Jammu, is in the forefront of helping people of the state especially from the border districts who have lost their limbs during militancy, due to land mine blasts or accidents.
Shri Atam Valabh Jain Sabha in association with Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayta Samiti, Jaipur had started a venture in 2003 in which they provide limbs to the handicapped people of the state.
The main motive of starting the venture was to give normal life to the militancy affected handicapped people.
It organizes a three day camp at Jain Sabha, Jammu on first Sunday to Tuesday of every month, in which people of the different parts of the state visits the camp and get benefited. The experts of artificial limbs from Jaipur come to Jammu to make the best quality limbs for the people of the state.
73-year old Barkat Singh, of a border village Samba had lost his limb in a land mine blast. "I am here to get right limb, earlier I had fixed it from Jaipur for Rs 5000, but this time they have provided it for free."
"There are six people of my locality, who had lost their limbs in landmine blast, I will inform them all to get benefit of this camp," he added. Ravi Kant Sharma, a shopkeeper of Kot Bhalwal, a patient of Polio was also there to repair his artificial limb, "I had fixed it a year back, there was some problem in the limb so I am here to get it repaired," he said.
"This organization has given me a new life, I was handicapped since my childhood, but after fixing these limbs I don't call myself a handicapped, it has added potential in me to do my job perfectly," he added.
The organization has organized its 116th camp in Jammu on Sunday, in which 48 patients were attended out of which 22 were measured for new limbs and others were there to get their limbs repaired.
