Sports Reporter JAMMU, Oct 27: As a part of its efforts to tap hidden talent among boys and girls in Sport Climbing at the grass root level, Mountaineering Association of J&K today selected eight climbers, including two girls of St. Xavier Convent Higher Secondary School, Barnai, here for further coaching. The climbers were selected on the basis of their performance in the day-long coaching-cum-competition held at the Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in the Sprawling Buds School complex, Chinore, here today. "Since the selection is part of the series of competitions being held for individual school as a precursor to the final selection of the State team for the 1st Sub Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship to be hosted by the J&K from November 20 to November 22, the process held in sub-junior category only," general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria told SAN. Vishav Partap Singh, Deepak Kumar, Bhaskar Digra and Summanyu Singh, who topped the 40ft high fibre glass wall, were automatically selected. Imran Ghani, Vansh Gupta, Siya Suryavanshi and Kashish Sharma also displayed good power and climbing skills to facilitate their selection for the next round of coaching, he added. The camp was held under the supervision of Sonam Sidharth and Shashikant, both experienced and qualified climbers in cooperation with Aman Arora and Hardev Singh, both champion sport climbers. Prominent among others present on the occasion included general secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria; Director of Sprawling Buds School, Rahul Sharma and teachers of St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Updesh Kaur and Dharmender Kumar. |
