Jammu, Oct 28: The NSS Unit of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar today organized a symposium and quiz competition on the topic United Nations and World Peace, and meditation session to commemorate the 68th anniversary of United Nations here today. According to press release, principal of the College, Dr Kiran Bakshi, who was Chief Guest on the occasion while addressing the students, said that United Nations has played a tremendous role in maintaining world peace and solidarity among the people of world. She expressed her hopes that students and youth can be ambassadors of peace to their respective communities. "They can carry the message of peace and goodwill to the rest of society for a positive change", she added. In the quiz, divided into five rounds covering UN history, Structure and Organization, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Achievements, United Nations and India, and Youth and United Nations, 4 teams took part. The team comprising Geetanjali and Akriti won the quiz competition. Prof. Shiveta Gandotra Co-ordinated the Quiz. In the Symposium, Hadeeqa Maryam and Sehrish Javed won 1st and 2nd prizes respectively whereas Jyoti Charak and Mandeep Sandhu shared the third prize. Prof. Jatinder Kour, Prof. Sanjay Kotwal and Prof. Shivani Manchanda served as judges of the symposium. Later, Jonathan Montenat from Australia, who was special guest on the occasion and other members from Sahaja Yoga Jammu Chapter demonstrated the Yoga meditation among the students and stuff of college, Jonathan said that Inner peace is important for attaining the external peace, and we can achieve this by meditation. Team of NSS Volunteers led by Programme Officers Prof. Shrotika Rajput, Dr. M. Ashaq Malik, and Prof. Nazia Rasool co-ordinated the programme. |
