Uri pushes Taj to wall, anti- incumbency at galore | | | Mustansir
Srinagar, Oct 29: How the fear of anti-incumbency turns a once roaring lion into a frightened fighter could be gauged from the fact that Minister for Medical Education and senior Congress leader, Taj Mohi-ud-Din is seeking help from those Congress leaders who he was not even ready to talk to until the other day. Taj Mohi-ud-Din who represents the Uri constituency of North Kashmir in the J&K Legislature since 2002 seems to be handicapped by a strong anti-incumbency wave gripping the Uri constituency and now Taj has sought help from those congress leaders who he did not even talk to till other day. Sunday's public meeting in Boonyar block of Uri constituency was not less than a surprise for the many. More so because the District President for Baramulla district, Mir Mushtaq Nawshehri whom Taj had disliked till the other day shared the dais with him. What was even more interesting to notice that a local leader Mohammad Sayed Chek whose rejoining the Congress party had irritated Taj was also sharing dais with Taj and was even garlanded by the minister. Eyewitnesses said though the PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz appreciated for development of Uri, however, dissatisfaction among the people present was quite evident. Many among the participants rebuffed the claims of Taj on development of Uri constituency and employment. Uncertainty about the future of Taj was also looming large as some speakers even appealed PCC president to announce the candidature of Taj for 2014 assembly elections from Uri publicly. This was in itself a huge setback for Taj who until recent past would consider himself a power centre independent of both Soz and Ghulam Nabi Azad for his acquaintances with 10-Janpath. Though Congress workers of Uri constituency were hard-pressed to ensure the event a grand show to give an apt response to his rivals who have been organizing public meetings frequently in Uri, Boonyar rally of Taj on Sunday touted as a response to his rival's meetings in the same area did not even come close to the expectations of the Congress stalwart on the crowd response. "The rally organized which was addressed by the Soz ended in a flop show as the participation was not on expected lines," an eyewitness told Early Times. He said, "Sunday's flop show should serve as an eye opener for Taj and he should carry out a thorough introspection. Taj needs to realize that hollow promises are not enough to feed people." "People have lost faith in Taj and he cannot take them for a ride anymore. |
