Sports Reporter JAMMU, Oct 30: Not even figured among last four previous year, the combined side of Post Graduate (PG) Departments of Arts emerged as new inter-college football champion outplaying Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur 3-1 in the delayed (pending for one month) final played at GGM Science College ground, here today. The experienced PG side dominated the field right from the beginning with Gagandeep Singh netting the ball for first goal in 13th minute. The lead was further improved by PG Arts when Niteshwar Singh kicked the ball right into the net from almost centre line soon after the drinks break. However, GDC Udhampur fought back and reduced the margin in the 45th minute. It was Lakhwinder Singh, who made solo effort and gave a dodge to the advancing goal-keeper. Better in stamina and experience, the PG Arts struck again in the 60th minute through Niteshwar to make it a fine 3-1 win. The competition was organised by the GGM Science College under the banner of Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu. In the final and prize distribution function, Minister for Planning and Development, Ajay Sadhotra was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. While congratulating the winners, Minister underlined the need for active participation of students in sports for overall personality development. Principal of the host, GGM Science College, Dr Satinder Singh was guest of honour. Director Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof. Dhian Singh Bhau was special guest.
