| More skeletons come out as CBI takes up probe of 'mess' at DDK Srinagar | | Shami Shair produces fake beneficiaries, receives huge payments | | Jahangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Oct 30: More and more skeletons are coming out of cupboard as the Srinagar office of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the mess at Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar that has been going at the station for the last few years. Sources told Early Times that the CBI is presently probing the role of former Station Director, Shami Shair in allotment of programmes. As serious allegations of corruption have been leveled against Shami the CBI is checking the veracity of such allegations. Some cases of corruption are already pending with CBI and the investigations have already been taken up. "Deputy Director General DDG Dr. Rafeeq Masoodi who is presently posted in Delhi has been roped in as expert by the CBI. Dr. Masoodi has been asked to explain the procedure in allotting programmes to the outside producers since that issue has been hogging centre stage at the station for years now," said the sources. Sources said that records, registers and files on which CBI acted against Shami in the past have gone mysteriously missing leaving investigating agency sleuths fuming in despair. They added that every piece of paper supposed to be with record room of DDK , Srinagar has vanished in thin air. "The records against Shami are believed to have been taken away and destroyed by employees who were her known agents when she was heading DDK, Srinagar. This shows that Shami still calls the shots at the station and it is well known the same corrupt practices continue despite tall claims by present dispensation of the station," said the sources. It would be in place to mention here that during last year when Shami was in news regarding her alleged corrupt practices, scandals and scams in DDK Srinagar and her subsequent booking by CBI under several cases. "The CBI team raided Shami's residence at Harwan and they were astonished that some of the neighbours who had nothing to do with Doordarshan and its programmes were shown as producers with the payments being made to such fake beneficiaries. The former station director managed to earn crores of rupees by showing the fake beneficiaries once payments were claimed," said the sources. Sources said the mysterious fire that broke out in DDK Srinagar's record room was the handiwork of the employees close to Shami. This, the sources said was done to destroy vital records present in the record room adding that the sole motive was to hush up the case of Shami so that her skin is saved from corrupt practices. "It has already been established that Shami managed fake signatures of various directors of Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar and loot the budget of the station. This she did by producing names of relatives as the producers of different programmes with the money reaching her kitty at the end of the day," said the sources. Sources said that Shami has been extorting money since 1990 on her niece's name Naila Neelofar who also happens to the academic officer of one of the government departments. |
