| 'Tree Talk' organized at GDC Billawer | | | Early Times Report
BIllawer, Oct 30: A 'Tree Talk' was organized by Botany Deptt in the premises of the Govt Degree College (GDC), Billawar here today in college premises with an objective to familiarize the students and other participants regarding the surrounding trees and other useful plants of nature. O.P.Sharma, Chief Conservator of the Forests (CCF) was the Chief Guest on the occasion which was participated by a large number of students and faculty members. At the onset of occasion, Dr B L Gupta, the Principal of the college presented the welcome address followed by the key note address from the chief guest who had an extensive interaction with the participants. He discussed the common uses and general characters of some trees of the area like Sarca indicia (Ashok tree) which is also regarded as Sorrowless tree and believed to get rid of ailments and sorrows of life. "While some trees like Holoptelia integrifolia (Chamarakh) and Zanthoxylum alatum (Timbru) can be used to maintain oral hygiene. Sant Kumar Sharma, senior journalist underlined the great importance of various types of trees prevalent in Billawar area and their medicinal properties. Mohd Saleem, Chief Wildlife Warden and Vijay Kumar Verma, ACF Kathua were also present on this occasion. The proceedings of the event was conducted by Vidisha Gupta and Aditi Khajuria. |
