10/30/2013 10:32:38 PM
Rajouri , Oct 30: In a bid to open a new era of development in the twin frontier districts i.e. Rajouri and Poonch, J&K Pahari People Movement (JKPPM) leaders have drafted a road map suggesting 'hill council' to region for redressing the aspirations of the people of this region. JKPPM has also decided to not to vote in favor of Congress and National Conference if Union and State government fail to grant the ST status to Pahari Community. As per draft document prepared by JKPPM, both the Poonch and the Rajouri are unique districts of the state bordering Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistani occupied Kashmir (POK) and residents of area are confronted with various problems since post independence era.
JKPPM executive chairman, Shahbaz Khan opinioned the new chapter of development could only be possible when government conceded other options including granting Hill Council Status to the region and restoration of state status to Poonch.
When contacted, Chief Executive of JKPPM, Shahbaz Khan said, "We have almost completed work on Rajouri Poonch-road map and the same will soon be presented before Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Governor NN Vohra." He added, "JKPPM suggests state status to Poonch and if is is not possible then grant status of Hill Council on the pattern of Ladakh and Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Councils. Shahbaz Khan further said they are not demanding anything new from the government but restoration of state status to Poonch which already was an independent state. meantime he reiterated demand of ST status to the Pahari speaking community and added that JKPPM has decided to not to vote in favor of the candidates of coalition partners i.e Congress and National Conference in case the Union and State government fail to grant the ST status to Pahari speaking Community.
