| PK for celebrating ‘Accession Day’ as State Day in future | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 30: Appreciating the people of State in celebrating the Accession Day in a befitting way by holding functions for complete three days Panun Kashmir today demanded that the Day be celebrated as a State festival (Day) in future. The Accession Day should be in future celebrated as State Day, PK president Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo told reporters and demanded that a gazette holiday be declared on this day. He said in case the gazette holidays number exceeds by declaring October 26 or October 27 as gazette holiday then the holiday on July 13 the so called Martyrs Day be cancelled. He said by holding three day long functions in connection with observance of Accession Day is an indication that a lot of awareness has been generated about the historical importance of the Day in the State which is in no way less than a national festival for the people of the State as on this day the Maharaja took a bold step in acceding to one of the greatest democracies of the world by rejecting the two nation theory. He said PK has been on fore front in launching awareness campaign in this regard for over two decades at the State and national level. He said it was on October 26 and 27 in 1947 that the State was saved from marauders, raiders and Pakistan army regularly by the valiant forces of the Indian army led by Brig Rajinder Singh. He said the day should be observed with much fanfare across the State so as to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the brave Indian forces. There is also a need to send a message about the facts of the history to the younger generations by observance of this day in an appropriate manner. Chrungoo said PK views with dismay the interview of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding the so called Ireland/Scottish type settlement of the Kashmir question. The Chief Minister should avoid giving such statements that have a tendency to give fillip to the fissiparous tendencies in the State. The time has come when sensitive State matters need to be delinked from the expression of populist sentiments and vote bank politics. He has by virtue of his statement in UK put himself and the other secessionist forces, unfortunately on the same page, Mr Chrungoo said, adding at a time when Pakistan has become proactive on the borders, the need to foster unity among the nationalist forces is paramount. Chrungoo said PK in days to come would launch an awareness campaign to sensitize the national opinion about the dangers in this regard. PK has made a fervent appeal to all concerned to provide details regarding any encroachment, annexation or usurpation of temple and shrines properties and lands in Kashmir to the leaders of Joint Forum of KP organisations. Chairman Political Affairs Committee, Prof M L Raina and its national spokesperson Virender Raina were also present in the press conference. |
