Jammu, Nov 9 : Rising prices of onions and vegetables have affected the taste buds during the ongoing marriage season, as many of the people are using less quantity onions in different preparations. The hue and cry over the rising price of the Onion and other vegetables has not only affected the domestic budget at homes but also affecting the taste buds in the marriage functions. The ongoing marriage functions are being badly hit by the price rise of onion and vegetables. Most of the People are managing to prepare different food items with less quantity of onion, some prefer the food items which do not require onion or which requires less quantity of onion. Gaourav Khajuria whose son got married recently said, "My caterer charged 50 percent more than normal rates, just because of price rise of Onion and other vegetables, when I asked him for negotiation, he said 'then don't expect good quality'." "It has become difficult to maintain quality and quantity, finally I had decided to cut short the invitations," he added. Another Gupta a family has asked the caterer not to use onion in their preparations. Gopal Gupta said, "I cannot afford Rs.800 per plate and cannot cut short the guests in my daughter's marriage, so I have asked my caterer not to use onion and other costly vegetables." Abhishek Gupta, a guest in a marriage function said, "We hardly find onion in the salad and the preparations in marriage are not of that quality these days due to less use of onion and other vegetables." Caterers are also worried with the price rise, as they fails to convince their clients. Sugandhi Goel, Managing Partner, Trived Event Management Company said, "Clients get shocked when we give them the estimate for caterings. They want best quality, but the best quality needs sufficient quantity of ingredients, which increases their per plate charges." "The vegetarian plate, which we were offering our customer at Rs. 550 is now touching Rs. 900, and our margin per plate also came down as the customer these days is asking for more discounts and concessions," She added.
