| Jogi Gate cremation road in shambles, PWD sleeping | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 9: Administrative lethargy has left the road leading to Jogi Gate cremation ground near Maharaja Hari Singh Park in Jammu in a dilapidated condition. Water logging has become a routine affair and one lane of the road has almost got damaged. This lane is not trafficable and commercial vehicles have illegal occupied the space for parking. The other lane of the road is shrinking with every passing day with car washing service stations have occupied the land and vehicles throughout the day remain on roads and nobody seems interested in stopping this practice. Sources in Public Works Department said that these service stations belong to few people who have political patronage and are associated with ruling National Conference as well as main opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP). "The Government authorities hesitate in taking action against them and thus they are making money at the cost of road," sources added. This stretch of road was re-laid in March 2012 when Maharaja Hari Singh Park was to be inaugurated by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Since then no work has been done and monsoon rains for two consecutive years have turned this to a hell. "We used to drive on this road with ease after it was re-laid last year. This is an important destination for people of Jammu to enjoy in cool breeze of river Tawi during evening in summer days but the condition of road has gone bad to worse. We hardly come to this side now," said Neeraj Gupta, a MNC employee. The service station on this road have damaged the road and PWD officials are not tracking any action against them. The whole area is on Government land and even service stations are illegal. When contacted, a PWD official failed to answer as why they are not taking any action against service station owners. When contacted the PWD Executive Engineer was not available for comments. |
