Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 9: Terming Rahul Gandhi Congress Vice President's two-days visit to Jammu and Kashmir 'successful', Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for medical education today said that a message from the Congress high command has been conveyed down the line to party cadres in the state that workers are lifeline of the party and any effort to undermine their importance will not be tolerated in future.
Talking to a local news agency, Taj said: "Rahul met Congress Ministers gave them suggestions, met and encouraged workers whom we consider as our lifeline. His visit is successful as the workers too have realized that they have a direct access to the party leadership in the state and at the Centre and their leadership stands by them in all odds and are always available to listen their woes."
Asked why Gandhi stressed on incorporation of 73rd amendment in Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Raj Act when the coordination committee of the coalition Government has agreed in principle on the same, Taj said: "See, there is some confusion on this. Our PCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz who is also the chairman of the coordination committee of the coalition Government in the state has already conveyed the agreement reached between the two parties Congress and NC to the party High Command in Delhi , general secretary of the party and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. It is only that Rahul Ji reiterated our party's commitment on empowerment of Panchayat members and that is why he was stressing on the incorporation of 73rd amendment."
He said Congress never wants to infringe upon special status of Jammu and Kashmir as a notion is 'wrongfully' being given on the ground. What we want is to incorporate certain important and best provisions of 73rd amendment to Indian constitution be incorporated into our state Panchayat Act."
Taj also ridiculed the reports about communication gap between Pradesh Congress Committee and the Congress high command in Delhi saying that the party high command is in constant touch with every state unit including the JKPCC.
