Jammu, Nov 10: Stressing the need for immediate release of pending installment of 10% DA due from July this year, president of the National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) Subash Shastri today appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to announce the same installment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to its employees and pensioners at the next cabinet meeting so that salaried class and pensioners get sigh of relief in view of increasing prices of essential commodities. Addressing a well attended NMC workers meeting here, Shastri stated that in view of the inbuilt provision in the annual Budget, there should be any hitch for the State Govt. to delay the release, more so when other States have already released the 10% DA installment since long adding that an early decision in this regard would be genuine measure to provide some relief to them. While recalling recommendations of Central 4th Pay commission which was implemented in January 1986 by the then Govt., Shastri said that it also had recommendations that as soon as DA crosses more than 50%, the Central Govt. is under an obligation to merge 50% DA into basic pay/pension, now the DA has already touched 90% and request for early merger of 50% DA into basic pay/pension with retrospective effect.
