Srinagar, Nov 18: Taking cognizance of repeated reports appearing in Early Times regarding swindling of funds in face lift of road infrastructure in summer capital, Minister for R&B has instituted a time bound inquiry into the allegations. Misappropriation in allotments of contracts issued from the Office of the Executive engineer R&B construction division II Srinagar for face lifting of roads, police beats, kerb stones, edge lines, centre lines, electric poles on the eve of Darbar move exposed by Early Times in its 18/10/2013 edition followed by bringing to the fore fraudulent measures used by contractors in nexus with concerned R&B officials finally invited the attention Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majeed Wani who assured a thorough inquiry in to the matter within a week. While talking to Early Times Abdul Majeed Wani said that taking cognizance of ET reports, he had ordered an inquiry in to the allegations. "Inquiry in to the matter will start from tomorrow and within a week it will submit its report following which action under law shall be taken against those found guilty" said Minister for R&B, Abdul Majeed Wani. The Minister said that inquiry committee would also thoroughly investigate the nature of contracts and the nexus between the concerned officials and contractors. Pertinently, a major scam was exposed by Early Times after credible sources informed that fraudulent measures were used by contractors in the face lifting works done ahead of Darbar move last time in Srinagar in nexus with concerned contractors. ET with the help of documentary and video evidence exposed that concerned contractors during face lifting work used substandard paints instead of branded paints like Apco track paint and Nerolac synthetic enamel, besides guidelines mentioned in the allotment orders. ET with the help of proofs also exposed that though as per the allotment orders the work was supposed to be completed before Darbar move , but work costing Rs 3.32 lakhs in down town area was not completed until the last week of August and whatever work was done, was either sub standard or done in utter violations of the guidelines issued by the department. |
