SRINAGAR, Nov 18: Authorities of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar are hell bent on not improving the existing infrastructure despite the fact that faulty equipment creates trouble on frequent basis thus leading to disruption in the programmes being aired from the station.
On Monday morning, the machinery developed a snag and as such thousands of listeners were deprived to listen to the initial stage of a musical programme. As soon as Tuheunz Farmaish, a musical programme of Kashmiri songs started there was a prolonged fault in the machinery and as such there was a disruption in the programme.
“Tuheunz Farmaish got underway at 9:45 AM and hardly had the first song got started there was a snag. In the first instance, we thought that the snag would be brief one and the programme would resume after some time, but that was not to be. The snag carried on for 15 minutes and by the time the programme resumed the first song almost got finished," said a group of listeners while sharing their views with Early Times. The listeners said that today's snag created a record of sorts as the transmission went off the air for 15 minutes. They said the engineering staff of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar never bother to set the machinery right so that there is minimum disruption in the programmes being broadcast from the station.
"If the prolonged disruption would have taken place at some other station the authorities would have taken the concerned officials to task. However, different parameters are adopted with respect to the higher ups of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar. No action has been taken so far against the officials who resorted to dereliction of duties at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar," said the listeners.
It would be in place to mention that in past similar complaints were lodged against the engineering staff, but no action has been taken against any of the staff members. Complaints were also lodged against the other staff members regarding their daily discharge of duties but of no avail.
"News readers while reading the news commit glaring mistakes and at times the mistakes distort the overall meaning of the news item. However, there is no change in the duty roaster of such news readers and they continue to commit mistakes. Fresh faces are not given a chance and as such the quality is compromised. At times information changes into disinformation or misinformation," said the listeners.
The listeners said that although there is no dearth of talented people in Kashmir valley, the authorities continue to carry on with the present lot as far as reading of news is concerned. They add that authorities of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar should carry out fair selection of news readers so that there is an end to the mistakes being committed by the present lot.
