Govt employees to hold week long convocation in Jammu from Dec 15

Jammu, Dec5: Before the Election Commission of India invokes code of conduct across the country in view of the Parliament elections due early next year, the employees of the Jammu and Kashmir government are contemplating to hold a week long convocation starting December 15 to press for their demands. Sources told Early Times on Monday that the Joint Consultative Committee of the state government employees are contemplating to hold week long convocation at Jammu to press for their demands before the Election Commission of India invokes Code of Conduct ahead of the Loke Sabha elections.
They said that almost all of the employee bodies and their leaders are of the view that the employees should agitate in a big way before the Code of Conduct comes into force in the state along with country. "Yes we have almost decided to hold a week long mammoth convocation at Jammu starting from December 15 to press for the just and genuine demands of the state employees" said a senior JCC leader.
While confirming that the convocation would be held this month, JCC spokesperson and General Secretary of EJAC (Q), Farooq Ahmad Trali said a delegate session of JCC including all the trade unionists will hold 5 or 6 day (convocation) in Jammu from 15th of this month. The convocation, he said would hold thread bare discussions and deliberations on how to get government to relent to employees' demands before the 'code of conduct' is imposed.
"The elections times are approaching fast. Government has so far ignored our demands. We will leave no stone unturned to get government down on its knees this time. It would be impossible to cry for justice once the code of conduct is imposed," Trali said. While alleging the government of backtracking from the promises made with the employee's, Trali said that despite inking two agreements with JCC, the implementation (of the agreements) is nowhere to be seen on ground. "Government has been using tough measures to break our resolve thus far. Be it protesting on roads and convening meetings. Authorities have scuttled every effort of ours to seek justice for the more than 4.5 employee's," added Trali.
He said that future course of action would also be taken in the convocation. Trali, however, reiterated that JCC will not be cowed down from "whatever tough stand government takes to desist employees from coming on roads and striking their official work." "Even the Essential Services Maintenance Ordinance (ESMO) failed to break our stand. From August to November this year we have held many rounds of strikes of the fourth phase. We will continue with our struggle until our demands are not met," asserted Trali. Pertinently, the employees demand enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years, removal of pay anomaly and regularization of all the adhoc and daily wagers.
