Cong leader Saroori threatens to launch agitation against GVK, L&T

KISHTWAR, Dec 5 : Ex-Congress minister and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammed Saroori today threatened to launch agitation against the two companies which are engaged in power production and road construction in erstwhile District Doda.
In statement issued here today, Saroori has said that GVK construction which is engaged in hydroelectric power project construction work alongwith Larsen and Turbo (L&T) are both discriminating with local youth of erstwhile district Doda. He said that the two companies prefer non-locals over locals. "We would launch an agitation against these companies of our youth are not engaged," said Saroori.
He was addressing a day long awareness programme organized by employment department for youth at Thathri in district Doda. Saroori said that both the companies must engage local youths in the said project and added that in case they fail to adhere to 80 percent employment to local youths, he along with others will launch an agitation against them. He strongly advised heads of both companies to engage local youths on top priority with immediate effect.
He said that UPA Government led by PM Manmohan Singh under the guidance of Sonia Gandhi has provided all possible help to the state government to overcome problem of unemployment. He attributed decrease in unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir to effective measures taken by centre and state, particularly by Congress.
He said that the problem of unemployment in the state especially that of the educated unemployed has reached alarming proportions and deserves immediate focused and coordinated attention with new policy initiatives, sound institutional arrangements and effective operational strategies. He called upon the unemployed youth to identify the potential sectors of entrepreneurship in Thathri, Doda and not to remain confined only for government jobs but must also look forward to open their own business outlets.
Deputy Commissioner Doda Mubarak Singh gave detailed account of various employment schemes run by the J&K government. Deputy Director Employment department Doda, Shahida Begum highlighted the importance for organizing such programmes to train the unemployed youths so that they earn independently. She further explained various loan schemes launched by department to generate employment opportunities for the youth.
She also replied various queries regarding age, qualification, documentation and other formalities for availing these employment schemes. People of Thatri area thanks the Employment department and Saroori organizing this awareness camp for the educated youth of the Tehsil Thathri beside people said such employment awareness programs held in remote areas like Thathri is quite fruitful for the rural youth.
Among others who attended the program includes Deputy Commissioner Doda Mubarak Singh, Deputy Director Employment department Doda Shahida Begum, ADDC Doda Ghulam Nabi Balwan, ADC Doda Imam Din, SP Doda Arif Rishu and other sectoral officers.
