Anantnag, Dec 16: Kandiwara, a sleepy village in Kokernag area which hit media limelight this April due to tragic road mishap of school bus claiming nine school children's lives yet is looking for a bridge which local blame is delayed courtesy Minister for Haj and Aquaf. Residents alleged that the bridge still is 'mirage' for the last eight- nine months for the locals despite the assurance from none other but Chief Minister Omar Abdullah which came just after tragic accident left village shock and grief.
Residents are alleging that issue of the construction of bridge is being politicized by local Congress MLA, Peerzada Mohd Syed and is being delayed reasons known better to him. Locals urged Chief Minister to intervene personally as absence of the proposed bridge on Nallah Bringi is resulting into miseries to the people. They are living in apprehensions that absence of bridge may turn a root cause to any tragic road accident.
Locals while sharing their dilemma with Early Times narrated that it was April 5, the day which snatched nine precious lives of innocent school children of the village and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Governer N N Vohara and other ministers expressing solidarity with aggrieved families issued condolence messages and taking a step forward Chief Minister himself visited the area and laid the foundation stone of the bridge. 'But concerned MLA and Haj and Auqaf Minister who allegedly has failed to get the work initiated on the bridge and later started interfering into the issue and started politicking it, they alleged.
"Before road accident we approached him (MLA) several times but concerned MLA briefly lamented his incompetency to construct the bridge but when the same was sanctioned, he started politicizing which resulted the delay," Gulam Ahmad Mir, local Auqaf President said. He said that R&B department came with a plan to construct the bridge on 1.75 km's long Sagam-Kandwari road at a cost of Rs 1 Crore but the same estimate go swelled to Rs 7.00 Crore after alleged interference of above mentioned MLA. Locals said that department has now increased the length of the road by connecting two villages through another village Khalhar which is already connected to both the villages and others as well.
Residents of both the villages now have appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene into the matter for the cause of lakhs of souls depending on this life line.
