Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 16: Omar Abdullah has shown first signs of political nervousness by contemplating to shift his constituency from Ganderbal to Sonawar.
Omar is keen to contest from Sonawar as there are reports that he may lose from Ganderbal as he has not nurtured his constituency and there is anger among his voters.
"Party is not going to take risk this time as Omar had already lost from Ganderbal in 2002. A defeat again from here could mar his political career," said an NC leader.
Party had been holding talks in this regard for quite some time and the options of safe constituency were considered and it was decided to shift his constituency.
NC has intuition that it is not going to perform well in Assembly as well as Parliamentary elections. Intelligence agencies and other observers are of the view that NC shall lose by huge margin if there is good voter turnout.
The shifting of Omar's constituency is not a good sign and will only send negative signal to the party cadre as it will signify that party has already gone into the defeat mode.
Sensing trouble, the party had decided to be committed to Congress even as its most bankable ally DMK has refused to have any alliance with the Congress.
"NC knows that its future is now fully dependent on Congress as Cong is sure to come to power again whichever way Kashmir region votes" said a NC leader.
The reason for NC shifting Omar's base is that party wants to remain in contention in the State as a defeat for him would send the party packing as Farooq is already in the Centre and will not contest elections and if Omar also looses than it is end game for them.
