SRINAGAR, Dec 16: Director Doordarshan Kashmir has raised his hands in surrender to the nepotism prevalent in the DDK and has expressed his helplessness in acting decisively against blue eyed non professionals who have dominated the operation of the Government media in the Valley for years.
The documents in possession of Early Times reveal that around 40 Government employees working in different departments mostly as teachers are also working as anchors, correspondents, news readers and script writers presently in regional news unit of DDK and radio Kashmir, who are allegedly recommended by politicians and Bureaucrats. This deep rooted nepotism has deprived many young and qualified people of exploring career opportunities in news reading, anchoring and script writing etc.
The details reveal that some blue eyed Government employees on pay rolls of various other Government sectors namely Azhar Hajini, Gulzar Amin Hakeem, Ajaz Ali Parrah, Fayaz Ahmad Ganai, Mohammad Sadiq Lone, Aarif Ali, Abdul Rashid Mir, Muhammad Maqsood Teli, Rouf Ahmad Rather, Mohammad Yaseen Shiekh, Rashid Feroz, Gulzar ahmad, Maqsood Teli, Muhammad Ashraf Dar, Shameem Ahmad Thakur, Abdul Majeed Mir, Mehommoda, Mohammad Shafi, Mohammad Akbar, Riyaz Ahmad, Shazia Chowdhary, Hasrat Hafeez, Showkat Reshi, Mohammad Shafi, Rafiq Paswal, Kousar Salam, Aabid Qadri, Aarif Qadri, Tajamul Qadri, Zarina Hassan and Saima Bashir are earning handsome money from various assignments in DD and Radio while young and qualified pass outs of Mass Communication and Journalism from the Kashmir University are deprived of employment opportunities.
Sources said that all these and many other people working as news casters, news readers, script writers and anchors are enjoying part time jobs in both these institutions over the years . Sources said that fresh masscom pass outs who approach concerned officials of both these institutions for such part time contracts are every time shown the door.
Ironically while accepting the favoritism prevailing in the system, newly appointed Director DDK Srinagar, Shabir Mujahid said that the contract was silent over engaging Government servants for such assignments and it was not for him to change the prevailing system.
