| Tale of two Reasi villages: One gets model village, other sans electricity | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Dec 16 : Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Muhammad Sagar laid the foundation stone of a model village at Neosi Mahore) in Reasi District yesterday. The project shall be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.12 Cr. The minister while addressing the gullible villagers urged them to come forward to take benefit of various schemes launched by the government for their socio-economic development. The project comes at a times when 500 families of Malikote village in the same district lack basic amenities. They have no electricity and have to travel miles to reach a dispensary and the high school. The proposal for electrifying the families was submitted two years ago and till date no action has been taken on it. It seems that the incumbent government launches projects in rural areas on political considerations. While an area gets a model village, other area in the same district is craving for electricity. Interestingly the Malikote village falls in the constituency of Abdul Gani Malik who was present in the above mentioned function and also addressed the gathering. If his heart beats for Neosi village why is he indifferent to the woes of the Malikote families? Agreed that providing electricity to the families is beyond his capacity but he can get them a dispensary from his constituency development fund. |
