| Jammu city witnesses' huge traffic jams | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 16: Jammu city witnessed a huge traffic jams today for several hours with hundreds of vehicles getting trapped at various places on BC road, Ware House, Gandhi Nagar and Bhagwati Nagar. The people as well as the office goers and college and university students faced a tough time in reaching their respective destinations as huge traffic jams with vehicles standing in long queues were witnessed at various places. The problem became more complicated with administration and Traffic Department's total failure in regulating the traffic on city routes in view of the two protest demonstrations and processions being taken out by refugees organisations. The huge traffic jams were witnessed from fourth Tawi Bridge to Hotel Asia, BC road from Women College Gandhi Nagar to Jewel, Green Belt Gandhi Nagar to B C road crossing and Canal road, Bhagwti Nagar and Narwal. It took hours together to people in reaching their destinations as Traffic police authorities were caught napping and they had failed to take preemtive measures in regulating traffic especially on busy roads despite knowing fully that the PoK refugees and West Pak refugees were going to hold demonstration and taking out processions in the city. The people have expressed their grave resentment against the authorities for their failure in regulating the traffic in the city. Criticising the Government for their failure in regulating the traffic in the city, Gorav Singh of Channi said that Government has not bothered to look into the problem. Stressing on immediate renovation and widening of city roads he said no steps were taken in widening the roads from Jewel to Talab Tillo, internal city roads, construction of fly over from Shakuntala to Ambphalla, widening of Janipur road, etc. He said the busy Akhnoor Highway has become a death trap as all claims made by the Government regarding its widening have proven totally hollow. He said hundreds of cores are being spent on construction of modernised Assembly complex but no attention is paid on widening of city roads which has been a concern of common masses. Supporting him Ramesh Khullar of Akhnoor said that traffic police is not seen in action on roads to regulate the speed of vehicles, regulate movement on busy crossings etc. Even it is mute spectator to accidents taking place on Highway or other roads. |
